Abstract
Integral road bridges, which eliminate abutment bearings and expasion joints, are being increasingly employed in various countries due to the advantages provided in terms of function, structural coherence and maintenance. This article sets out various concepts and ideas regarding the possibilities offered by these monolithic structures for railway bridges and underlines those aspects which require further debate by bridge specialists.
