Abstract
The major European cities all show very similar deviopment in terms of the objectives, structure and organization of their water supply systems. At the outset the main concern was to supply a sufficient quantity of water, though this has since moved on to a growing concern for the physical, chemical,, sanitary and organoleptic quality of the water supply together with service quality. A comparison with the water supply services of the main Germán, Spanish, French, Italian, British and Swiss cities reveáis that the Canal de Isabel II water board is providing a public water supply and sanitation to the Madrid región in an efficient and environmentally sustainable fashion.
